“How much does a website cost?” is the first question almost every business owner asks, and the honest answer is: it depends. A simple one-page website and a custom online store with hundreds of products are completely different projects. In this guide we explain what really affects the price, show our own starting prices and help you understand what you are paying for.

The short answer

For a small business in Europe, a professionally built website usually costs from a few hundred euros for a simple one-page site to several thousand euros for a large custom website or online store. Prices vary a lot between countries and providers: agencies in Western Europe often charge significantly more than agencies in Eastern Europe for similar work.

At VisiOne Design, our starting prices are:

  • Business card website: from €300. A one-page website for freelancers and small businesses that need a professional online presence.
  • Company website: from €600. A multi-page website with services, about us, contact pages and a blog, built to generate inquiries.
  • Online store: from €800. An e-commerce website with a product catalog, cart, checkout, payments and delivery options.

Our prices are final, and every project gets a clear, fixed quote before any work begins.

What affects the price of a website?

Two websites can look similar on the surface and still have very different prices. These are the main factors:

1. Design complexity

A clean design based on a proven layout takes less time than a fully custom design with unique sections, animations and illustrations. Both can look professional; the difference is how much custom work is involved.

2. Number of pages and amount of content

Every page needs structure, text, images and optimization. A website with 5 pages is a very different job from one with 30 pages, many services or hundreds of products. If the content needs to be written, translated or organized for you, that also adds to the cost.

3. Features and functionality

Contact forms and maps are simple. Online bookings, payments, courier integrations, customer accounts, multiple languages or a member area take more work and testing. The more a website needs to do, the more it costs to build properly.

4. Platform, licenses and services

Most small business websites are built on platforms like WordPress or OpenCart. They are flexible and easy to manage, but a project may also need a domain, hosting, premium themes or plugins, which have their own costs.

5. Who builds it

You can build a website yourself with a website builder, hire a freelancer or work with an agency. Doing it yourself is the cheapest option in money, but not in time. An experienced agency costs more, but you also get strategy, design, development, SEO basics and support in one place.

Why are some websites offered for €100–200?

You will find offers for very cheap websites online. Usually this means a ready-made template with your texts replaced, little or no attention to speed, mobile experience or SEO, and no support after the website goes live.

That can be enough for a temporary page, but a website is a business tool. If it is slow, hard to use on a phone or invisible in Google, it costs you clients every day. Paying a bit more for a website that actually brings inquiries is usually the cheaper option in the long run.

Ongoing costs after launch

The price of building a website is not the only cost. Plan for these as well:

  • Domain: a yearly fee for your website address.
  • Hosting: a monthly or yearly fee for the server where your website runs.
  • Licenses: renewals for premium themes or plugins, if your website uses them.
  • Maintenance: updates, security checks, backups and fixes that keep your website safe and working.
  • Marketing: SEO and ads, if you want the website to bring you more visitors and clients.

Maintenance is the cost people most often forget, and the one that causes the most problems when it is skipped. Outdated websites are the most common target for hackers and often break after server updates. We explain this in more detail in our article What Happens When a Website Isn’t Maintained?

Our monthly maintenance plans start from €150 per month and include regular updates, functionality checks and SEO monitoring. Larger plans also include ads management and marketing support. If you prefer to manage your website yourself, you can also contact us only when you need help and pay per hour.

How to get the best value for your budget

  • Start with a clear plan. Know your goals, the pages you need and the features that really matter. Our free Website Brief Generator helps you put this together in 5 minutes.
  • Prepare your content early. Texts, photos, logo and product information are often the biggest cause of delays. The sooner they are ready, the faster your website goes live.
  • Start small, then grow. You don’t need every feature on day one. A solid foundation can be extended later.
  • Ask what is included. A cheaper quote may not include mobile optimization, basic SEO, training or support after launch.
  • Agree on everything in advance. Changes and new features added in the middle of a project increase both the time and the cost.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to build a website?

Most small business websites are ready in 2–4 weeks. Larger websites and online stores take longer. The timeline also depends on how quickly the content is ready.

Will I get a fixed price?

Yes. After we agree on what the project includes, you receive a clear quote with a fixed price and timeline. Additional features requested later are quoted separately.

Do I need to pay everything upfront?

No. We usually work with an advance payment of 30% once the project is set up, and the remaining 70% when the website is finished and handed over to you.

Do you work with clients outside Bulgaria?

Yes. We work with clients across Europe and beyond, with all communication in English.

Can you improve my existing website instead of building a new one?

Often, yes. A redesign or optimization can be a more affordable option. Not sure where your website stands? Try our free Website Health Check to get an instant score and a list of what to fix first.
